I Am Homeless
March 24, 2008 by David
I got my project back today. Finally an update on design huh? I chose to take a trip and go homeless in the streets and without money for a weekend in the middle of winter. It was a tough time but I learned a lot and gained a great appreciation and a great amount of respect for people who don’t have the things that most of us take for granted. I got a great grade on it (which makes me happy) and I’m proud of how it turned out. The project was to take a trip and document it using photography and typography and make it an “unconventional book”. I decided to do three different page layouts with elegant, warm colored type on the front that folds out to the information/story on the inside that is a very cold color scheme and has a dirty appearance. The first spread is an introduction to the problem. The second spread is a journal of my two days of being on the streets. The last spread has awareness information and things people can do to help other people that are less fortunate. The reader has to sift through a box of trash (journal pages, napkins, pennies, food wrappers) to get the pages out in sequential order.
